What
is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a form of Tactile-Therapy
working on the acupoints, and the organ meridian pathways throughout
the body to affect the flow of the internal life force (Qi, Ki,
Chi or Prana) for restoration and maintenance of Health and Well-being.
Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning finger pressure,
though thumbs, knuckles, palms, forearm, elbows, knee and feet
are also used in the treatment. Varying degrees of pressures
are used to sedate, disperse, stimulate or tonify a particular
meridian and/or acupuncture points to remove energy blockage
and restore the flow of energy within the body.
There are 12 main meridians (channels of energy) and 8 extraordinary
vessels that run throughout the body. These meridians are called
by the organ name to which they are attached. They come in yin/yang
pairs: i.e. Lung/Large Intestine; Spleen/Stomach meridians; Liver/Gallbladder
meridians, etc.
Any imbalance in one or more of these meridians (a result of
restriction of your connection with Spirit), will create disharmony
within the physical, mental and emotional bodies, manifesting
as an illness.

Clinical
Shiatsu - Treating
the Deeper Meridian System
Shiatsu is performed on a futon mattress on the floor, with the client
fully clothed (preferably loose fitting and of natural fabric).
Diagnosis:

The practitioner assesses the state
of energy imbalance through palpation of abdomen.
A Bi-digital O-Ring test (BDORT) is used to detect precisely
the location of organ / meridian imbalance.
Facial, tongue & pulse diagnosis may also be utilized during
the session.
Ako Qi is the first in WA to incorporate the latest LOM Diagnosis
technique which provides the practitioner with accurate and precise
organ meridian diagnosis thereby providing the best possible
treatment that has a long lasting, if not permanent, effect.

The
treatment may consist of varying degrees of pressure applied
on the meridians and specific acupuncture points.
MOXIBUSTION (use of mugwort herb) on accupoints.
Manakas Ion Pumping Cord and Magnets may also be used.
Breathing, Meridian Stretching Exercises and Discussion of lifestyle
are also integral part of the treatment.

Mind-Body
Connection
In Eastern medicine, the essence
of our state of Wellness concentrates in the balance of the flow
of our Qi (Chi, Ki or Prana, Energy or "vital life force).
Oriental Medicine, acknowledges the Body, Mind and Spirit as
part of the whole entity and treat all as one energy.
In a healthy individual, if an energy imbalance is detected earlier
and given appropriate treatment, the body can easily restore
its normal function and the individual can maintain a healthy
life.
If an energy imbalance in the physical, mental or emotional
bodies is neglected, it will eventually manifest as a chronic
illness. Treatment for such a condition is over a longer term.
Shiatsu can be used as a Preventative and Health Maintenance
Therapy.
Shiatsu restores balance and harmony to the deepest levels of
the Mental and Emotional State.
When the Qi (Life force) attains the state of balance, healing
from within takes place.
