GUIDELINES for NATURAL HEALTH

What constitutes a 'good' diet?

Eat 'good' fresh food in the right amounts and at the right times, foods that are 'in season' for your locale.
(aka: the 100 km diet, Macrobiotics...)

[Foods that are trucked in over long distances [interstate] or flown in from overseas are contributing, unnecessarily, to Climate Change.
In many instances a brand of product is trucked in from interstate while another brand of the same product is being trucked back out to other states.]

The following documents have been created as a part of my practice as a Naturopath. These are of assistance to clients in reminding them what to do. I offer them here for a small fee. Typically AU$2.50.

Many natural therapists consider that the amount of carbohydrates (especially of the refined type) suggested by the food pyramid [see www.mypyramid.gov] is excessive.
I have always believed that vegetables should constitute the greater portion of the diet,
rather than carbohydrates such as grains (bread, pasta, etc).

Vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals essential for good health, and with fibre to promote healthy bowel function. They also contain protein and healthy w3 oils [though in small amounts]. They also contribute in a large way towards your required water intake - vegetables are 70% to 80% water.

Fats & Oils

How much oil and fat is in your diet? Check on the www.mypyramid.gov site to find how much you should really be having.
All of your body cells have oils as part of the cell walls. Millions of your cells die each day and need to be replenished with fresh constituents. Too much poly=unsaturated oil and your cell walls are weak and too flexible. Too much long chain saturated fat [animal fats] and your cells are too rigid and inpenetrable.

Please reduce to a bare minimum the amount of W6 vegetable oils [sunflower, safflower, canola, etc] as they are mostly bad for your long term health.

Search on virgin coconut oil to find its real health benefits.
Natural Butter is better for your long term health than Margarine.
These oils have high levels of short chains fatty acids that your body uses as energy and also for building its own long chain fats for other essential bodily functions.

Foods that have been industrially processed should be only a very minor portion of ones diet, if at all.

Check out the site www.mendosa.com for information on how to control glucose intolerance and diabetes through the use of low Glycaemic Index (GI) foods.
There are also other methods to assist with gaining control over your glucose intolerance and type II diabetes.

What constitutes a 'good' lifestyle?

Sleep, Family, Diet, Exercise, Play, Socialising, Hobbies, Work, ...

All these aspects, and others, of our lives, in equal combination, can be considered to contribute to a lifestyle that is physically, mentally and spiritually satisfying for oneself and one's community.
However, there are many of us who are not provided the time or space to enjoy all of these activities.
One particular activity seems to take precedence - work. This is where ill health of body, mind and spirit can take hold.
Unless, of course, your hobby is your work that includes physical activity and Fun within a social setting.
